First pole-sitter in New York, Nick Cassidy was well on his way to winning Race 1. Leading from start to finish, the Virgin Racing driver suffered an aggressive attack from Jean-Eric Vergne at the end of the race. The Frenchman managed to pass Nick Cassidy but it was another driver, Maximilian Günther, who took the lead of the race, thanks to a cross on the two drivers battling at turn 10.
