To prepare its drivers for a possible arrival in Formula 1 one day, Alpine does not hesitate to offer them test days at the wheel of single-seaters from the time when the team was still called Renault.

Thus, Oscar piastri and Guanyu-Zhou were present at Silverstone this week to try their hand at driving an F1 car.

Accustomed to driving in F2 since his F3 title in 2020, Oscar Piastri took to the track on Tuesday behind the wheel of the RS18 that Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz, then regulars at Renault, used in 2018.

The 20-year-old Australian was able to complete 86 laps of the English track in wet conditions. » It was a great experience to drive an F1 car again,” he admitted. The conditions were wet in the morning but I was able to do a lot of laps in the afternoon with some qualifying and race simulations."

On Wednesday it was Guanyu Zhou who took over. In drier conditions, the current F2 championship leader completed 106 laps while driving the RS 18 for the fifth time in his career.

It was a very good day, ”He said. It was great to go from Monaco to Silverstone and feel the support of an F1 car.
