Roman De Lauw: "I never thought I would witness the emotions experienced by the pilots to this extent"

On the sidelines of the last Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi, the 29-year-old Belgian welcomed us in his rental car for a trip around Yas Island. This Kimi Räikkönen fan told us his story as well as a few anecdotes about the drivers. As proof of his great powers of persuasion, he managed to get the Safety Car to lend him, just long enough to take a few pictures!

Hello Roman. First of all, very nice car… and I'm not talking about the rental car in which we are going to do the maintenance!

Thank you! I recognize that it would be difficult to go unnoticed when I go to buy my bread with it every day. (Laughs) Jokes aside, many thanks to Bernd Mayländer (the official Safety Car driver. Ed.) for kindly making it available to me in the pit lane. Don't hold it against me, we won't be able to drive it, but I thought it would be nicer than my little Chinese rental car for the photos. (Smile)

We guess we must consider ourselves lucky to be able to steal two hours of your time on a round of F1...

On events, it is true that hours and minutes are counted! But it pleases me to take a step back and talk about my journey. And for AUTOhebdo, what wouldn't we do! (Smile)

I am Belgian, I grew up in Brussels. Most of my family comes from Liège, and more precisely from Huy. I grew up with the Rally of the nearby Condroz as well as the Marchin hill climb, which took place in my village. I stayed in Belgium until I was 15, before moving for my father's job in Paris. So I finished middle school and did high school in France. I then joined the Sorbonne in economics and management. From the beginning of my higher education, I oriented myself towards
