Can the past save the future? If the question has already been addressed in Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future saga, it could arise again in the World RX championship. The new 1 formula00% electric is hard to convince, after a more than difficult birth. In the first events of the season, only 8 participants were present at the highest level of the rallycross. GCK Motorsport might then have found the solution: making something new with something old.

The Guerlain Chicherit team will arrive in World RX at the Nürburgring (Germany), on November 12 and 13, with a car released... in 1987! A Lancia Delta, legendary car and six-time world rally champion between 1987 and 1992. It remains to this day the most dominant car in the history of WRC. But be careful, under its iconic bodywork, this Lancia Delta Evo-e RX hides a modern chassis and two electric motors.

A body of yesteryear, an engine of the future

Under its body conforming to the original, the Lancia Delta Evo-e RX hides a tubular structure meeting the safety standards dictated by the 2022 FIA regulations. Entirely designed and manufactured in GCK Performance premises in Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme), the chassis required more than 1 hours of work and the manufacturing of specific tools. With 200 kW (500 hp) under the hood, the car has twice the power of a Formula E and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 1,8 seconds thanks to its four-wheel drive and the combination of two Kreisel Electric motors of 250 kW each.

Announced in November 2021 and awaited for weeks by fans of the discipline, the Lancia Delta Evo-e RX will therefore make its grand debut at the Nürburgring in Germany on November 12 and 13, alongside more contemporary cars. For this baptism of fire, the ambitions of GCK Motorsport will necessarily be measured against more seasoned competition in the operation of these new generation electric cars. “I am very happy to be back in World RX, a year after my last participation on this same Nürburgring circuit. One thing is certain, our Lancia Delta Evo-e RX will stand out among the modern cars that make up this oh-so spectacular championship., rejoiced Guerlain Chicherit, driver and founder of GCK Motorsport. We will now need a little time to understand the car and make it progress in order to make it competitive. I'm already looking forward to being on the track. »
