Fifth day in Ultimate for the Pole Eryk Goczal, and already a first stage victory in the premier class for him! The Overdrive driver beat his teammate Lucas Moraes by 2'29 to become the youngest driver in the history of the W2RC to win a stage in all three car categories. The leader of the general classification, Nasser Al-Attiyah, had to settle for third position with his Dacia Sandrider.
However, the Qatari was well on his way to solidifying his position at the front of the pack, as he had a 31-second lead over Moraes at km 262. 38 km later, it was the Brazilian who regained the advantage and recovered eight seconds on Al-Attiyah. In the general classification, the two men are therefore only separated by 41 seconds, before the final 167 timed kilometers scheduled for this Thursday. It will be a duel between the two men that will decide the fate of this Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Sébastien Loeb having been forced to abandon the race with the second Dacia entered. The young Emirati driver Aliyyah Koloc also left the caravan after rolling over at km 38. She was transported by helicopter to hospital as a precaution, for further examinations.
Winner of the special, Goczal is getting closer to Seth Quintero (Toyota) for third place in the general classification. The gap is 1'44 between the two men, but with the Pole having taken 3'52 from the American today, anything is still possible...
