Dakar 2023 – Stéphane Peterhansel, an abandonment with a taste of déjà vu

Stéphane Peterhansel is not a man accustomed to chess. His retirement from the 2023 Dakar is strangely reminiscent of the outcome of the 2019 Dakar, where his co-driver at the time, David Castera, injured his lower back when landing on a Peruvian dune.

The day of Friday January 6 will unfortunately be unforgettable for Stéphane Peterhansel. It was in fact during the 6th stage of the Dakar 2023 that the Audi Sport representative abandoned this 45th edition of the rally-raid, following an impact from his Audi RS Q e-tron causing back pain to his co-driver Édouard Boulanger.
