Spain is usually synonymous with vacations when summer comes. But the meadows of Aragon near Zaragoza were especially transformed into a working field for the Audi Sport team at the start of August.

German engineers took their new baby, the RS Q e-tron, in order to test it over… eight days of testing! In the furnace (34 degrees in the shade), the three crews signed for the 2022 Dakar were called upon to contribute: Stéphane Peterhansel-Édouard Boulanger, Carlos Sainz-Lucas Cruz and Mattias Ekström-Emil Bergkvist.

The SUV, which has three electric generators (MGU), two of which come from the Formula E as well as a TFSI block from DTM, covered gravel tracks totaling 17 km long and reached a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

The three-time Dakar winner, Carlos Sainz, reports positive impressions. “For what was only a first test, I am already very happy with the behavior of the vehicle. I immediately found my bearings. Of course, there are still details to be worked out but we are off to a good start.”, explains the Madrilenian.

The engineer in charge of development, Arnau Niubo Bosch, was able to collect data throughout the 1 km accumulated. “These training sessions had to be used to accumulate as many kilometers as possible as well as to list all the weak points of the car. The next tests are planned for September and we will evaluate in a dune area for the first time."
