Desafio Ruta 40 classification, stage 2:

General classification Desafio Ruta 40:

  • The second stage of the Desafio Ruta 40 2024, routed between Cordoba and San Juan (Argentina) highlighted the top speed of the Toyota Hilux T1+. Author of the third fastest time on Monday, Lucas Moraes (Toyota) hit the nail on the head by signing the best time on Tuesday, allowing him to consolidate his third position in the general classification, less than 5 minutes behind leader Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota Overdrive).
  • “It’s an incredible day,” said the day’s winner. The team gave me a great car. My co-driver Armand did a top-level job because we did not receive any penalties for excessive speed. (in controlled speed zones. Editor’s note). What a battle with Yazeed (Al-Rajhi) and Nasser (Al-Attiyah)! We will continue to attack like this. »
  • For his last rally-raid at the wheel of the Prodrive Hunter in the World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC, the Dacia Sandrider being scheduled for the Morocco Rally at the beginning of October), Nasser Al-Attiyah is aiming for victory. The outgoing double world champion is in 2nd place alongside his French co-driver, Édouard Boulanger.
  • “It was a very fast stage, we couldn't make up a lot of time, says Nasser Al-Attiyah. I got a penalty for speeding but it's not very serious. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will start in 3rd place so we will be able to attack more. Wednesday's stage will be more technical, so I think the Desafio Ruta 40 will really start then. There are 3 days of racing left! »
  • On Wednesday, stage 3 looping around the San Juan Villicum circuit will consist of 478 kilometers including 341 of special.
  • “Steps 3 and 4 will be the most difficult, certainly those which will be decisive, said Pablo Eli, the Race Director. There are gravel tracks but also a salt flat of almost 40 km, with many very different rivers. With sand, pebbles, stone slabs, tracks sometimes narrow, sometimes wide, with or without vegetation... There will really be everything! Even a nice chott. The route planners made us add 3 waypoints in these rivers because navigation was not easy there. The cold may be a factor to take into account. Almost the entire special will take place off-road or on barely visible tracks. This is the most difficult stage in navigation, without a doubt. »
