As Mathieu Baumel's father, Gérard Baumel, explains to the daily La Provence, it was while assisting a car participating in the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique that the accident occurred. A car knocked him down while he had gotten out of his vehicle to help the crew of a Alfa Romeo broken-down.
This accident occurs two weeks after the finish of the Dakar 2025, which Mathieu Baumel had experienced in the company of the Belgian Guillaume de Mévius, within the X-Raid team. Aboard their Mini JCW 3.0 T1+, the crew had notably won a stage before finishing in 18th place.
CARhebdo sends its best wishes for recovery and its support to Mathieu Baumel and his family.
