It's no longer a secret that Zak Brown is a collector of classic cars. The big boss of McLaren has amassed over the years several exceptional historic racing cars, seen in the last century at Le Mans, in F1 or on racesEndurance in the United States. Once or twice a year, the American businessman treats himself to a little pleasure by getting behind the wheel of his cars. In 2024, Zak Brown has chosen Estoril Classics, the Series by Peter Auto finale in Portugal.

The weekend of October 5-6, the CEO of McLaren will drive not one, but two cars: a Ford Cologne Capri RS3100 in the Heritage Touring Cup, as well as a Porsche 935 in Classic Endurance Racing II. To do this, Zak Brown will be associated with the record holder for victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Dane Tom Kristensen.

“I’m looking forward to a racing weekend with my good friend Zak,” declares Tom Kristensen, nine-time winner at Le Mans. “Estoril is a great circuit, and the Capri and the 935 are two fantastic cars, so when I got the call from Zak it was easy to say yes! »

“Tom is a legend of the sport and I am very happy to race with him, continues Zak Brown. The Capri and Porsche 935 are two of my favorite cars and we have a good track record at Estoril thanks to last year's victory with my friend and associate Richard Dean. This will be my first race with Tom, which will be great… and the goal remains the same. We are aiming for victory! »

Both cars will be entered by United Autosports. The Ford Cologne Capri RS3100, producing 450 horsepower from a GAA V6 engine, was previously driven by three-time F1 world champion Niki Lauda. This is one of three ex-factory examples. As for the Porsche 935, it is the “JLP-3 IMSA », victorious at both the 24 Hours of Daytona and then the 12 Hours of Sebring the same year, in 1982.

The Estoril Classic races will be broadcast live video on YouTube and AUTOhebdo.fr.
