Despite a third and fourth place finish at the 24H of Le Mans 2025, Sunday, for its two official 499P Hypercars, Ferrari finally left La Sarthe with far fewer points than expected. Indeed, after passing through technical checks, the No. 50 car, driven by Antonio Fuoco, Nicklas Nielsen and Miguel Molina, was finally disqualified from the race.
And this after the stewards' decision for infringement of the technical regulations, two irregularities having been noted at the level of the rear wing (missing bolts and excessive flexibility). Logically, the points for fourth place (24) were removed from the crew in the drivers' classification. While the Scuderia has seen 30 points removed in the Constructors' classification (as a reminder, the AF Corse n°83, victorious on Sunday with Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson is "transparent" in this classification due to its status as a private car. Editor's note).
So, the question now arises as to what impact such a turnaround in the situation regarding the No. 50 could possibly have on the championship. On the constructors' side, of course, 30 fewer units is no small feat. But, with 172 points on the clock, the Maranello firm still has a more than comfortable cushion on Toyota (2nd, 95 pts), his runner-up, and Porsche (3rd, 84 pts).
Given the first half of the 2025 season of official Ferraris in WEC – victory in Qatar, Imola, a one-two at Spa, a podium at Le Mans – as well as the pace and top speed displayed in the race, it seems difficult to imagine any other scenario than a title at the end of the final round in Bahrain.

A real blow for the trio of the Ferrari No. 50 in the drivers' championship
On the other hand, the big blow after this incident is especially for the Fuoco-Molina-Nielsen trio. Indeed, with 24 points less, the crew, still third in the Drivers' Championship (57 points), sees the trios of Ferrari No. 83 and No. 51 take a lead. Thus, on the third step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the trio Giovinazzi-Pier Guidi-Calado has 105 points, 16 points more than the Kubica-Ye-Hanson crew, winner of the Le Mans classic (89).
That's not all. In addition to a 32-point deficit to the second-place finishers, the three drivers of the No. 50 car are seeing some of their rivals closing in significantly. Indeed, Kamui Kobayashi,Nick de Vries et Mike conway (Toyota GR n°7) are only 13 points behind (44 pts). While the duo Kévin Estre-Laurens Vanthoor, in the Porsche Penske n°6, and the trio Nato-Stevens-Lynn in the Cadillac n°12, are not far behind either with their 42 points. Another consequence of this disqualification is the presence in the points of theAston Martin Valkyrie No. 009 (Riberas-Sorensen-De Angelis). The English manufacturer has thus registered its first two units of the season.
So, while the crews of the #83 and #51 Ferraris already have a significant advantage, third place for the #50 promises to be a hot topic as early as São Paulo in mid-July. Second in La Sarthe, the #6 Porsche seems to have the arguments to fight against the Scuderia once again. The Toyotas and Cadillacs will also be keen to shine in the upcoming rounds after a two-hour race in La Sarthe that didn't go their way. Enough to witness some great battles on the track once again.
