Already present alongside Cadillac last year, Alex Lynn is preparing to take part in his 9th 24H of Le MansDriving the No. 12 Team Jota Cadillac, the Briton confirmed that changes to the steering wheel this year would be limited, with no impact on his adaptation at this stage. “It’s obviously a little different, but at the same time… same noise, same steering wheel, same sensations, he explains to us. So yeah, same… but different. Honestly, to me, it still looks like the same car.”
Although the experience could allow Cadillac to aim for a good result this year on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, the driver who already won the GTE Pro category in 2020 with Aston Martin prefers to temper the ardor before the start of hostilities. For him, the context must not encourage his people to get excited in Sarthe.
"Le Mans is unique, especially because it's a huge race with so much expectation. It's hard to manage your urge to overdo it, he says. The most important thing is to 'play the race, not the event.' We have to stay focused on our procedure, on execution, just like in any other race. But because of what's at stake, it's easy to overdo it, especially on Saturday."
Cadillac in the peloton of the ambitious
Visibly enjoying a good atmosphere with his teammates from crew no. 12, but also with the drivers of the other Cadillac team, Sébastien's no. 38 Bourdais, Earl Bamber and Jenson Button, Alex Lynn sees this multiplicity of cars lined up by Cadillac (four in total) as a force that must be channelled.
“It’s good to have more information, but at the same time you have to stay focused on your immediate environment, he wisely remindsThe goal is to maximize what we have in our car and with our two teammates. The other two cars are there, the data is open, but we must not get lost. Sébastien is right: we must focus on our own car." he adds about a similar speech already given by Sébastien Bourdais.
In this context, it is close to the podium, but visibly still far from the favorites that the Cadillac driver aims to fight this year at Le Mans. "If I had to make a prediction, I see Ferrari in front, then Toyota, concedes the Briton. And then a very nice fight between us, BMW, Porsche et Alpine"
The debates are therefore expected to be close, although two favorites seem to be emerging even before the official start of the week in Sarthe.
