On the eve of his first participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Célia Martin tackles the main event of the calendar WEC with humility, enthusiasm and lucidity. Joining the Iron Dames team, the Frenchwoman is experiencing her first season in a World Championship after competing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup last year, which allowed her to discover

« Last year was a preparation year, but I didn't expect to be in the WEC this season, especially with Manthey “, she confides. “ I tried to focus on the new tracks and enjoy myself. It's so amazing that I don't want to miss out. »

While the emotion is palpable, the concentration is just as present, especially as the Le Mans classic approaches. After getting her bearings during the Test Day, the 32-year-old driver is already paying close attention to one key parameter: traffic.

« You have to be careful with traffic management, even more than usual. The speed difference is significant. It's not so much a problem on the straights, but on the bends, like the Esses. Porsche. » A challenge that is all the more significant in a GT3 category, alongside Hypercars and LMP2.

Mental preparation also plays a key role in the approach to this unique race. Already experienced in extreme endurance formats—she notably competed in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring—Célia Martin knows that success also depends on personal balance: I try to be careful about getting eight hours of sleep. Even though we want to do everything perfectly, there's always something unexpected, as we saw with Michelle."

The injury of Michelle Gatting, forced to withdraw following an accident, did not leave the French driver indifferent. I was quite affected. It's very easy to stay in your routine, which gives you extra confidence. » A brutal reminder that, in a 24-hour race, everything can change.

Fortunately, team spirit is in full swing: “ The girls help me a lot. What matters is to have fun, to appreciate the moment so you don't have any regrets. "An approach as serene as it is determined, like a pilot who, more than ever, understands the dream she is living.
