The Weigh-In at the 24 Hours of Le Mans: What is its purpose?

Le weighing, or scrutinizing, is an essential step – both literally and figuratively – in the 24 Hours of Le MansThese are the mandatory technical and administrative checks for all cars and teams involved. The stewards meticulously examine each vehicle to ensure its compliance with the regulations: weight, dimensions, safety equipment, etc. The drivers also undergo checks of their licenses, suits, helmets, and other equipment.

As is tradition, this inspection does not take place away from prying eyes on the circuit as in Formula 1But in public, at Place de la République, and access is 100% free. It doesn't get much more popular than that! weighing This event offers spectators the opportunity to meet the participants of the prestigious Le Mans classic and get a closer look at the cars. Photos, autographs, and interviews are the key elements of these two days, during which participants will take turns being interviewed by technical and administrative officials.

Elsewhere referred to as "technical and administrative checks", the weighing It has retained its traditional name at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But during these two days, the dozen marshals on site do much more than weigh the cars: they measure the main dimensions, check the undercarriage, safety equipment, stickers, transponders, data acquisition units… In total, the technical operations take about thirty minutes per car. The 186 drivers, for their part, validate their equipment (race suit, helmet, fireproof clothing, etc.) and their driving licenses, according to the standards dictated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, and nearly thirty cars will be inspected throughout the day, including Hypercars, LMP2s, and LMGT3s. On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m., the remaining twenty or so cars will in turn be thoroughly examined.

Saturday, June 6 – Driving in downtown

Don't miss the fantastic parade of racing cars in the heart of Le Mans, on the eve of Test Day, once scrutineering is complete. The 2,1 km route will start from the Place du Jet-d'Eau. And for this fourth edition, the thirty or so cars will complete two laps of the circuit. An exceptional opportunity to experience the thrill of roaring engines!
