The 93e edition of the 24H of Le Mans began this Sunday, June 8th with the Test Day, held a week before the double round-the-clock race. After a morning dominated by Robert Kubica at the wheel of the Ferrari 499P n°83 from AF Corse, it is Brendon Hartley who distinguished himself in the afternoon by placing the Toyota No. 8 at the top of the timesheet. While the New Zealander is happy with his performance, Hartley prefers to remain cautious with a week left before the real hostilities.
Hartley believes the Toyota is not the fastest on long runs
« It was very nice to see the GR010 Hybrid again at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Brendon Hartley said Sunday evening. I think we're pretty positive after a successful day, without any major issues. I had a good feeling with the car, and I think Ryō (Hirakawa) and Seb (Sébastien Buemi) too. Clearly, the competition is tough, and on the long runs, I wouldn't say we're the fastest car, but I feel like we're in the game. We still have work to do next week. I hope to be able to sleep well in the coming days, recharge the batteries and be ready for the big challenge ahead. »
Indeed, for Toyota, deprived of victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in recent seasons due to Ferrari's dominance, the only time when being in the lead will matter will be Sunday shortly after 16:00 p.m. when the checkered flag drops. By then, a lot will have happened on track. See you Wednesday from 14:00 p.m. for Free Practice 1.
