The big day is getting closer! A little over a month before the departure of 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 15-16), the Automobile Club de l'Ouest published the first entry list with the full 62 crews. This is obviously provisional because it can still change but in any case we know the 186 drivers expected in Sarthe in a few weeks.
The absence of Vettel, the only real surprise?
One of the most scrutinized cars was the Porsche 963 No. 4 on which only Mathieu Jaminet was announced last February. Since then, several rumors have emerged, notably that of a possible participation of Sebastian Vettel. The German tried the Hypercar from Stuttgart and has never hidden his desire to one day compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The idea was mentioned but the manufacturer from across the Rhine finally decided to trust Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, reforming the trio from the previous edition.
At Cadillac, of the three V-Series.Rs entered, there are two new features. One had already been known for several months with the tenure of the champion ofIndyCar in title Alex Palou on No. 2, replacing Richard Westbrook. This will be the Spaniard's first experience in Le Mans.
If No. 3 does not move with the renewal of the trio Bourdais-Van der Zande-Dixon, N°311 welcomes Felipe Drugovich on board. The Brazilian, Vector Sport driver in ELMS and reservistAston Martin en F1, joins Luis Felipe Derani and Jack Aitken.
Victim of an accident during testing near Aragón at the end of March, Ferdinand Habsburg is among the contingent ofAlpine A424 No. 35 for the moment. As a reminder, the Austrian missed the Imola event and will be replaced again at Spa (May 10-12) by Jules Gounon.
In total, the premier category has no less than 23 Hypercars belonging to 9 different manufacturers: Cadillac, Porsche, Toyota, Isotta Fraschini, BMW, Lamborghini, Alpine, Ferrari et Peugeot .
High level in LMP2
Disappeared from WEC and reserved for the ELMS on European soil, the LMP2 category will be one of the great attractions of these 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans. The field looks great with 16 Oreca 07s entered (including 8 in Pro-Am) which can practically all compete for victory on a regular basis.
France will be represented by three teams: Panis Racing (Rodrigo Sales-Mathias Beche-Scott Huffaker), Duqueine Team (John Falb-James Allen-Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer) and IDEC Sport (Paul Lafargue-Job van Uitert-Reshad de Gerus ).
At Inter Europol Competition, the recent winner of the 4 Hours of Castellet Tom Dillmann will be replaced by Clément Novalak. On the side of Vector Sport, Gabriel Aubry, without a steering wheel this season, gives way to the experienced Patrick Pilet. For Algarve Pro Racing, Canadian Roman de Angelis will make his debut at Le Mans. He won the 24 2023 Hours of Daytona in GTD and is not related to the late Italian, Elio de Angelis.
Great first for the LMGT3
This 92e edition of the Sarthe double clock tower will be the opportunity to admire the LMGT3s for the first time on site. As a reminder, these regulations came into force this season in the world championship ofEndurance, succeeding the LMGTE. Nine manufacturers appear on the entry list (Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Lexus, Corvette and Porsche) for a total of 23 cars.
In the event of withdrawal, the ACO has 5 reserves for these 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans: Proton Competition in Hypercar (Porsche 963), Inter Europol Competition and Staysail Motorsport in LMP2, and Racing Spirit of Leman (Aston Martin Vantage AMR LMGT3 No. 72) and Kessel Racing (Ferrari 296 LMGT3 No. 74) in LMGT3.
