Kalle Rovanperä starts a new life in Zandvoort this weekend. The Finn, double reigning world rally champion, made his debut on the circuit in Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. The 911-year-old's Porsche 3 GT23 Cup entered by Belgian team RedAnt Racing wears the colors of Red Bull and is adorned with number 69 for this weekend.

The native of Jyväskylä (Finland) was invited to speak about his more or less long-term objectives on the circuit. He took the opportunity to affirm his dreams of a double clock tower during this weekend of Weighing and Test Day at Le Mans. “ I have always wanted to race on the circuit and I have a few dreams, notably 24 hour races like Le Mans or the Nürburgring, but first let's see how the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux races take place », declared Rovanperä to the press.

Could these first steps be accompanied by an appearance in the Rookie Test of WEC in Bahrain at the end of the season? “ This would be a good thing for the future, but nothing has been decided on this yet », replied the one who had already appealed to Toyota to test the GR010 Hybrid during the FIA gala last November: “ I would really like to test it. You can see how well Toyota is doing in the WEC. We have to do a simulator test first and it depends on that – you have to be fast enough to drive in the real car. »

The possibility of seeing the youngest champion of the WRC in the Japanese Hypercar was not dismissed by her employer. “ Nothing is impossible » replied David Floury, technical director of Toyota Gazoo Racing, when we interviewed him at the end of February in the paddock of the Losail international circuit (Qatar), on the sidelines of the 1812 km of Qatar, opening round of the 2024 season of the WEC, regarding a possible upcoming test. The Frenchman also felt that seeing Rovanperä at Le Mans could be “ an opportunity in the future. »

A passage through the WEC Rookie Test seems an essential step before thinking about a possible participation in Le Mans. Seeing a world rally champion driving with Toyota during this test day would not be a new thing, since the Japanese manufacturer had already organized this with Sébastien Ogier November 2021.
