Remember, in 2023: Ferrari was heading quietly towards a first victory at the 24H of Le Mans with the 499P, leading the race in the last hour. But during the final pit stop, the #51 Ferrari remained stuck in the pits, unable to restart for many seconds, before finally taking off and winning the Le Mans event.

This bout of stress, the Italian manufacturer experienced a new one this weekend. While leading the race two hours from the finish, the #50 Ferrari encountered a bizarre problem: the door of the 499P refused to stay closed, and reopened each time it passed on a vibrator. A failure which forced the Reds to make an unscheduled stop, after long minutes of struggle between Nicklas Nielsen and his right door, at the request of the stewards (six laps after the start of the problem, all the same...). A stop which left the Toyota n°7 go to the front…

Nielsen believed that “ everything was lost » for Ferrari

A problem resolved urgently in the pits and which did not reappear until the finish of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finally won by the No. 50 of the trio Antonio Fuoco – Nicklas Nielsen – Miguel Molina. After the podium celebrations, the victorious crew did not hide their happiness, but also expressed their relief at having finished the race without having encountered the same door problem in the final minutes.

“I think it was an extraordinary race. We had a bit of a scare at the end with the gate, but I think we did an amazing job throughout the race, said Antonio Fuoco.I am proud to be part of this family. Last year we came very close and the sister car won the race, so I think it's good to be back here with both cars on the podium. I think today Nicklas, at the end, did an incredible job on the wet tires. It was really good, and now it's time to enjoy it. »

“To be honest, it was a very long race, especially after the problem we had with the door, added Nicklas Nielsen, who had the honor (and the stress) of finishing the race aboard the No. 50 Ferrari. I thought all was lost, but I knew the pace was good in the wet at the end. The last stint was long, very long, and so was the last lap. I don't even know what to say. It's just amazing to be here and finally win a race that I've always wanted to win. Seeing the sister car win last year was a proud moment for everyone involved. So I think for us to win this year is even more important because we're doing it twice in a row. »
