He will not be the driver best known to the general public at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024 (June 15-16), but Alex Palou risks surprising more than one in Sarthe. The Spaniard will discover the event by driving a Cadillac V-Series.R from the Chip Ganassi Racing team with Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber, a team he knows well from IndyCar (double champion).

The 26-year-old Catalan, who spent most of his career in single-seaters, has made the 24 Hours of Le Mans one of his major objectives in 2024, even ahead of the quest for a third title in IndyCar ! This is what he explained on the sidelines of the opening meeting in St Petersburg (Florida), Friday March 8.

“Yes, I’m looking forward to this upcoming experience,” he said. I mean these are prestigious races that are amazing to be a part of, especially Le Mans. I'm looking forward to it and hopefully fighting for the overall victory, which is my goal. »

Alex Palou also explained that the Indianapolis 500 (May 26) constitutes a second objective to be achieved in 2024. Here again, winning one of the monuments of the motorsport calendar is a priority before winning the IndyCar championship.

“Winning the Indy 500 is the main goal, but it’s not the only one. That's the main goal because the deadline is in May, it's coming quickly, and it's our biggest race of the year. I know we'll have fast cars (Palou was poleman in 2023. Editor’s note). Everything just has to go well that day. »
