Belén García is diversifying. Accustomed to car after his debut in karting in 2015, the Spaniard will participate in her first race in Endurance this weekend for the finale of the 2022 Michelin season Le Mans Cup, in Portimão (Portugal). The 23-year-old Catalan will thus move into a CD Sport LM P3 alongside the Chinese Huilin Gan.

Belén García: “Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time”

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, confides Belén García to AUTOhebdo. I have been impressed by these cars since I attended the WEC at Silverstone in 2013. I really love them and I'm very happy to be here. » If the native of L'Ametlla del Vallès (Catalonia) has already had the opportunity to test the prototype at Magny-Cours, this will only be her second time in an LM P3. A car very different from the single-seaters she was able to drive in Spanish F4 or FRECA.  “I come from FRECA where the cars are very physical and we have to fight with them, she admits. The LM P3 is really different to drive and I'm still getting to grips with it, but it's really fun. »

For the last two seasons, Belén García played in the W Series. A championship which has just announced the premature end of its 2022 season and whose future is not assured. “I really wanted to do the last races and it's very sad not to be able to, she laments. It's like that. Pilots are always looking for budget to ride. They did it for us for three years. We should be grateful for everything they have done for us. » With the women's single-seater championship seeming to be in decline, Belén García's future in motorsport could lie in Endurance after this weekend of discovery in the Algarve. “It’s a path that I want to explore. I'll try to find a steering wheel for next year, but let's start with this weekend. I asked if there was a place available to ride here and so we chatted with the team. »

With the 24 Hours of Le Mans as a long-term goal. “I don’t know any drivers who are not interested in doing the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s a race so different from the others, legendary. »
