Little by little, BMW's return to the premier category ofEndurance takes shape. Expected in LMDh from 2023, the Munich structure revealed this Saturday a first glimpse of its future prototype set to race in IMSA in the United States, perhaps awaiting confirmation of an entry at Le Mans and WEC.
If this first image is only a drawing, we can notably see an imposing front end incorporating the traditional BMW grille. While Peugeot took the gamble of running its 9×8 without a rear wing, the LMDh from the propeller manufacturer actually sports one.

In addition to this revelation, BMW also confirmed its association with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing which will enter two LMDh in IMSA in 2023. But this collaboration which has existed since 2009 on the other side of the Atlantic will continue in 2022. The RLL has in fact announced that it will continue its adventure in GTD Pro, the new name for the GTLM category now integrating the GT3 regulations, next year with two new BMW M4 GT3s.
« I am delighted that our LMDh project has reached the next stage with the announcement of BMW Team RLL as the team that will race with both prototypes, says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M. As with our partner Dallara, Bobby Rahal and his team benefit from exceptional know-how and decades of experience at the highest level. The LMDh project continues to gain momentum and I am confident that next year we will again take all the necessary measures as planned in order to be as well prepared as possible to begin our first season in IMSA with the LMDh prototypes in 2023. We are meeting this challenge together at full speed. »
