Having just celebrated his 42nd birthday, “Mako” has been confirmed as one of the starters to take charge of the official Porsche 963 LMDh in 2023. A nice birthday present and a fair reward for those who actively participated to the development of the German Hypercar.

It's a lot of pride. For a driver to have the opportunity to represent a manufacturer in a major program with which he can compete for overall victory in the biggest races is fantastic.

How did you hear the news?

Via the head of Porsche Motorsport (Thomas laudenbach. Editor’s note). I had already had a small meeting with the team a few days before. They explained to me that certain criteria had to be taken into account and that they needed a little more time. But it was during this meeting that I understood that the process had been launched.

Did the fact of having actively participated in the development of the 963, or even of having taken its first turns of the wheel, add emotion to this announcement?

At one point or another, the emotional factor does indeed come into play. Performing the first revolutions of a car represents all the people who worked on it for months. This doesn't always happen
