To try to achieve victory at the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona, Chip Ganassi Racing and Ford Performance chose strength in numbers. Four Ford GTs will be present at the start of the Florida event (January 28-29), a commitment as important for the American brand as in the last 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the blue oval won in GTE Pro.
“It would be easy to talk about what we've already done with this Ford GT, but we're really focused on the future, comments Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Performance. We didn't have the best race last year in Florida but we have a season of experience behind us with this program now. »
Corvette Racing won the opening round of theIMSA Sportscar Championship in 2016, and doubled the lead a few weeks later at Sebring. However, no driver has been confirmed for the composition of the crews.
“Even with the success we had last season winning six races, I think we have a taste of unfinished business with Daytona, admits Chip Ganassi, boss of Ford Chip Ganassi Racing.
The 24 2016 Hours of Daytona was our first big test to see where we were with this program, and even though we didn't win, I can tell you we learned a lot.
We also learned a lot at Le Mans working with four cars for 24 hours. I'm glad we have another opportunity to line up all the cars for Daytona. This opportunity to race with all four cars at the same time, in such a prestigious race, is very special. »
