24 Hours of Daytona – EL3: Porsche shines in the night

La nuit floridienne sied parfaitement à la Porsche 963. Après celle du Roar, c’est une deuxième séance d’Essais Libres nocturne qui a souri au constructeur allemand. Prenant la suite d’Acura et Cadillac, c’est ainsi une troisième marque différente qui a enlevé le classement général des Essais Libres 3 avec la n°7 emmenée par Matt Campbell avec un tour en 1:35.802.

Filipe Albuquerque, best time in Free Practice 1, took second place 0.172 seconds behind in the Acura ARX-06 of Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport. As a symbol of this Thursday, it was a Cadillac which completed the podium of the evening thanks to Alex Lynn in the V-LMDh n°02 at 0.377 seconds. 

Of the four manufacturers entered in GTP, BMW is still the furthest behind with the sixth and ninth times recorded, respectively 0.660 seconds and 1.350 seconds behind the best time. 

The French continue to distinguish themselves in LM P2. This time, it was Matthieu Vaxiviere who was the fastest in this class with the No. 88 AF Corse Oreca, in 1:38.416. Still on the French side, it was a Ligier which set the best time in LM P3 with Mathias Lindh (Andretti Autosport).

On the GT side, nothing changes with the domination of Mercedes in both categories.
