Was there a change in the driver rotation for the last few hours, or did you follow the originally planned plan?
The plan evolves throughout the race. All three guys here were extremely good performers, so there really weren't any bad choices to be made. Felipe has a great track record of winning at Daytona and he was given the mission to finish the job. To see that happen two years in a row and to watch the defense he put together for the last 30 minutes of the race was mind-blowing. It was truly an epic race and through all of it, from the middle of the night when we were all freezing to the end where some of us were sweating!
Did you have any concerns at any point about getting a good result during this race?
All these races are never easy. They may look simple from the outside, but you have to work hard all the time. An hour and a half into the race, our pace, position and competitiveness looked pretty dire. Nobody ever gave up. None of the six drivers in the two cars went off the tarmac, or hit anything. We had two of the four cars on the lead lap, which gave us a 50/50 chance of winning. With a team like that, you get the result we saw today.
How grueling was that end of the race?
For me, after the last stop, this was the easiest part of the day: I sit on the wall and watch what happens. (Laughter). But before you get there, you have to take all the good editions and this weekend is a team effort. We really optimised our two-car strategy to make sure one of them stays at the front to control the pace of the race. We saw that in the last pit stop with the different tyre strategies of the two Porsche. This put us in a position to win and cover any potential attacks from other manufacturers. Every car had a chance to win at Daytona.
