24H. of Daytona – Shane van Gisbergen confirmed at WeatherTech Racing

After having completed an almost exemplary 2016 season, Shane van gisbergen will tackle the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona event (January 28-29) with WeatherTech Racing.

Entered alongside Thomas Jäger, Cooper MacNeil and Gunnar Jeannette in the GTD category, the New Zealander will swap his usual McLaren 650S GT3 for the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the American structure.

The Kiwi driver took charge of his bike during the two days of testing organized this week on the Florida track. “I'm getting more and more used to Daytona, explains van Gisbergen. These two days we all felt comfortable with the car and the team.

It's a little different to what I'm used to with the McLaren which has the engine in the central position. This Mercedes looks more like my car in Supercars (the Holden Commodore of Red Bull Racing Australia), so the transition is a little easier. I like its handling, especially in turns. »

Shane van Gisbergen has not yet confirmed his 2017 program outside the Supercars championship, after specifying that the Australian series would remain his priority, with a view to defending his title acquired in 2016.
