ALMS – Extreme Speed Motorsports moves to LMP2

Extreme Speed Motorsports distinguished itself last year by finishing in third place in the GT Championship behind Corvette Racing and BMW Team RLL. Owner-driver Scott Sharp and his teammate even took second place in the Drivers' Championship with first Ferrari 458 Italia engaged. If the American team should compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GTE Am with the Italian, its ALMS program has evolved since the team will field two HPD ARX-03b in LMP2 for Sharp-van Overbeek and Brown-Cosmo.

Both crews will benefit from sufficient experience. Scott Sharp has already won the LMP1 title in 2009 in an Acura ARX-02a which he shared with David Brabham while his compatriot has more than 100 races in the discipline to his credit although he will be new to the category. Guy Cosmo has also been in LMP2 and will help his teammate Ed Brown find his feet on the prototype.

“I’m really proud that ESM is entering LMP2”, comments Scott Sharp. “We have benefited from our three seasons spent in GT with Ferrari, but without support from an official manufacturer, everything falls on the shoulders of the team. Independent teams are at a serious disadvantage. For ESM, winning two races last year (Motorsport Park and Petit Le Mans), finishing second in the GT Championship and beating the best official GT teams in the world was a huge reward. The move to LMP2 is a new chapter for ESM and an ideal home for Tequila Patron (the title sponsor). We see a great opportunity to learn with and develop LMP2, which will put us in an ideal position for the next season in 2014 (where Grand-Am and ALMS will unite). ESM will remain with Ferrari in Grand-Am GT and Ferrari Challenge. »
