ALMS – Panoz: Future plans for the DeltaWing

After causing a sensation at 24 Hours of Le Mans, the DeltaWing will return to the spotlight by competing in the final of the ALMS and theELMS at Petit Le Mans this weekend with Gunnar Jeannette and Lucas Ordonez as a crew. The project implemented by Do, Panoz was a success since his car will be eligible for points next year in ALMS. The organizers of the discipline will analyze the performance of the hybrid prototype to define its category and establish a possible balance of performance.

Dan Panoz is obviously delighted by this new momentum which will propel the DeltaWing back into competition. “Given that the car was born in the USA, I am very much looking forward to its second race here at Petit Le Mans. Our partners Nissan and Michelin will benefit greatly (from our presence in ALMS next year) and everyone wants to see the car running regularly on the track. The car proved its potential at Le Mans and we must congratulate the ACO for creating the 56th stand which enabled the car's first appearance. But we will be lucky enough to be able to compete in a Championship next year. The schedule for the next season has not yet been confirmed, but we now know that we have a future. »

After this first stage is completed, Don Panoz dreams of seeing the DeltaWing produced in several units to compete in various endurance events around the world. “DeltaWing Racing Cars is clearly in favor of building cars and we are already in discussions with potential customers. Now that we know the car can fight for wins and titles, the game has changed. It was a real difficulty for a potential customer to adopt a car without knowing where it could be accepted. This obstacle has now been overcome. As I mentioned when announcing the merger between ALMS and Grand-Am at Daytona, we want to make sure that the P2 Prototypes, Daytona Prototypes and DeltaWing can race together in 2014. We also dream to one day see a DeltaWing Championship emerge one day. »
