Rebellion Racing had indicated that it intended to reduce its ALMS program by only committing to two or three tests to focus on the development of the future R-One designed in partnership with Oreca. The Swiss team has clarified that it will ultimately only compete in the final at Petit Le Mans where it will seek to defend its victory acquired last year with the Lola B12/60 Coupé-Toyota Nicolas Cheers, Neel Jani and Andrea Belicchi. The Swiss team specified that its program remained unchanged in WEC.
“We had a great fight with the other LMP1s in ALMS and we were due to compete in the next event at Road America (August 11), but our future lies in continuing to compete in LMP1 in 2014 and beyond, and we must do everything to ensure the right level of attention on this project,” explained Bart Hayden, Team Manager of Rebellion Racing. “I know many fans will be disappointed to learn we won't be back until Road Atlanta. It wasn't an easy decision to make because we love racing in the USA. The investment to design and build the new car is significant and it takes an immense commitment to run at the same time. We have to be realistic and we ultimately preferred not to compete in the next ALMS events. But we will come back for the finale of the year to aim for victory again at Petit Le Mans. »
