Hanley, who notably raced for DragonSpeed on numerous occasions, has already participated in one race this season for Zak Brown's team. The former driver ofIndyCar finished tenth in the 24 Hours of Daytona, which he contested alongside Mikkel Jensen, Phil Fayer, and Hunter McElrea. He also finished third in the season-opening round ofELMS, in Barcelona. Ben Hanley will be back, this time in the No. 22 (he had driven the No. 2) at Daytona, due to a clash of dates.
Paul di Resta, the regular driver of this LMP2 car, will indeed be in São Paulo, Brazil, the same weekend from July 10th to 12th, to participate with Peugeot in the six-hour race at the Interlagos circuit in the World ChampionshipEndurance.
Hanley will therefore take his place alongside Daniel Golburg for a 2-hour and 40-minute race where the LMP2 cars will be the premier category, as the GTP cars will not be heading north of the border. Conversely, the Oreca LMP2 cars were absent from the last round of the championship, on the streets of Long Beach, which traditionally host the GTP and GTD categories.
"Paul and Ben are two incredibly talented racing drivers with whom we are fortunate to work year after year.", says Max Gregory, managing director of United Autosports. "With Ben taking the wheel of car #22, we retain the level of experience and formidable speed needed to stay at the front of this highly competitive field."
