Brabham and Sharp take off

The eighth round of the season, that of Mosport, was decisive for many teams, before seeing the heavyweights of the season arrive.Endurance, Audi and Peugeot , during the next race, at Petit Le Mans. It is therefore in the position of favorite that Scott Sharp starts from pole position, at the wheel of the Acura ARX-02a n°9. But, quickly, Gil de Ferran got the better of the Scot, and put the No. 66 Acura back in the race for victory. After four consecutive successes, Ferran Motorsport had to settle for second place in Elkhart Lake, a bad move for the ALMS championship title in LM P1. It is therefore with this ambition that the Brazilian, who will retire from the circuits at the end of the year, leads the way at the start of the race.

In GT2, the start of the race is to the advantage of the BMW drivers, who occupy the first and fourth rows, flanking the two Corvette C6.Rs. Far from it, Jaime Melo, who started in last position, begins a long comeback. In LM P1, the two Acuras were threatened by the Lola AER, which even managed to take the lead by beating Gil de Ferran, but the Brazilian managed to regain the lead. Unfortunately for the driver of the No. 66 Acura, a misunderstanding in the pits caused him to lose control of the race and precious seconds. The No. 9 Acura of Scott Sharp, after battling with the other prototypes, took the lead.

The BMWs did not experience the same success in the race as in qualifying and had to return to their pits prematurely, leaving the controls of the race to the Corvette of Oliver Gavin, while at the cost of a formidable comeback, Jaime Melo occupied the second row.

The entry of the safety car following Chris Dyson's (Lola B09 86 Mazda n°16 LM P2) exit from the track occurred shortly before halfway, allowing many crews to change drivers. For Ferran Motorsport, simon pagenaud took the wheel to finish the race, even if gearbox problems forced the Frenchman to regularly return to his pit box. For the No. 66 Acura, victory seemed impossible.

In LM P2, the Acura ARX-01b and the Lola B09 868 Mazda n°20 are neck and neck, while in GT2, the Ferrari of Risi Competizione took the lead, after starting from the back of the grid. But the Corvettes have not said their last word, and that of Oliver Beretta is back in the lead. In LM P1, with a very good pace, Simon Pagenaud manages to join David Brabham?s Acura, but gearbox problems force him to return to his stand again, seeing all his efforts wasted by these mechanical problems.

The last wave of refueling allows, in GT2, to see Jan Magnussen take back control of the race and, in LM P1, the confirmation of the podium which is taking shape. David Brabham, free from mechanical problems, maintains a comfortable lead, while Simon Pagenaud manages to maintain a second place which limits the damage. After 2h45 of racing, David Brabham allows the Acura of Boss Highcroft Racing to score a second consecutive victory and place itself as favorite for the title. However, Simon Pagenaud and Gil de Ferran are only 17 units behind the leaders, able to hope to win in the event of failure of their rivals.

In LM P2, the victory of Luis Diaz and Adrian Fernandez in the Acura ARX-01b allows them to secure the championship title in the category, with two races remaining, at Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca. . In GT2, it was ultimately the Corvette of Jan Magnussen and Johnny O'Connell which finished first, ahead of the Risi Competizione Ferrari of Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer.
