The secret had been out for several months, it is now official: Wayne Taylor Racing will be making its comeback with Cadillac in 2025. Although it has been running Acuras since 2021, the team of the former South African driver had already been part of the General Motors fold before that. The story between GM Motorsports and Wayne Taylor began well before that, when the man from Port Elizabeth (South Africa) took his first laps in the United States in 1990 as a General Motors factory driver in a Chevrolet-powered GTP race car.
The previous collaboration between the Detroit (Michigan) manufacturer and the Wayne Taylor Racing team between 2017 and 2020 resulted in numerous successes, including three at the 24 Hours of Daytona (2017, 2019, 2020), two Petit Le Mans (2018, 2020) as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring (2017). This return to the General Motors family follows the decision earlier this year to part ways with Chip Ganassi Racing, which had previously been in charge of factory operations in WEC and IMSA. In the World ChampionshipEndurance According to the FIA, it has already been decided that the Hertz Team JOTA team will take over the torch from 2025.
As for the North American Endurance Championship, Action Express Racing will continue to operate a V-Series.R. There will however be three examples of the Detroit manufacturer in IMSA next season since with this new partnership with Wayne Taylor Racing, the firm has decided to push its efforts. In addition to the three LMDhs lined up on both sides of the Atlantic this year, there will be five next season. For how many at the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Nothing has been confirmed, but until now, Chip Ganassi Racing doubled its commitment in the run-up to La Sarthe and Action Express Racing has benefited these last two seasons from the invitation granted to IMSA.
« I am very happy to return to the Cadillac family, says Wayne Taylor, team principal of the eponymous team, whose team last raced for Cadillac during the 2020 IMSA season. After partnering with GM for so many years, with so many wins and championships, and having such a fantastic relationship with them, this overall program that we have put together couldn’t be more exciting. We have some exciting things coming up and I look forward to discussing our business relationship in the months ahead. »
The drivers will be announced later. What is certain at the moment is that Pipo Derani will no longer be at Action Express Racing in 2025, as he announced several weeks ago.
