Castroneves and Acura Team Penske on pole at Mid-Ohio

The Acura DPi of Team Penske seem to be strong contenders for victory at Mid-Ohio. The Team Penske prototypes were the fastest in qualifying after already showing promising performances in testing.

Helio Castroneves took the No. 7 to pole after setting a time of 1'11''837. The three-time Indy 500 winner preceded the sister car driven by Dane Cameron by a little more than a tenth.

The Mazda DPi were the closest, Oliver Jarvis taking third position half a second behind the reference time, ahead of the second Team Joest car driven by Jonathan Bomarito by two tenths. The Cadillac DPi of Renger van der Zande (Wayne Taylor Racing) and Joao Barbosa (Action Express Racing) form the third row of the grid.

Gustavo Yacaman took the first LMP2 to seventh position with the AFS/PR217 Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier JS P1.

The GTLM pole was fought out between the BMW M8 GTEs and the Porsche 911 RSR. The Bavarian manufacturer had the last word with the No. 24 of John Edwards which beat the No. 911 of Nick Tandy by seven hundredths. The second row of the category will be similar, the second M8 GTE entrusted to Alexander Sims ahead of the No. 912 of Earl Bamber.

Jack Hawksworth was fastest in GTD driving the 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3.

The Mid-Ohio race will be contested this Sunday from 19:05 p.m. (French time).
