Corvette Racing finally secures its 100th victory

Well, one would be tempted to say. Since Long Beach 2018, none Corvette, C7.R or the brand new C8.R which appeared at the 24 Hours of Daytona last January, were unable to return to Victory Lane and thus score the brand's 100th victory in the championship.

An expectation now vanished with the victory of the C8.R n°3 last Saturday by Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, on the cover sleeve of theIMSA in Daytona. Winners of the event with a very fine strategy in terms of fuel, the tandem brings the new car, still designed under the leadership of Pratt&Miller, into the history of the brand.

« Consumption was the major point, recognizes Garcia. The engineers identified very early on how limited we would be on fuel and how much we would have to start working on this point.

Jordan did a perfect job on this. He was able to save a lap of fuel in his stint, and I saved one in my first stint. We went for a green flag race and we managed to finish. »

The Corvette clan took advantage of the pause in motorsport due to the coronavirus pandemic to work hard on the development of the C8.R. Effects felt by the drivers from qualifying with Oliver Gavin's pole on the No. 4, and confirmed by the performances in all respects in the race.

" I think that the cut gave the guys at Corvette Racing valuable time to make progress with the C8.R, believes Jordan Taylor. Our fuel consumption, our engine and our driving flexibility at the start of the race were much better than during the first outing.

Pit stops were improved as the guys were able to practice during the quarantine once back at the workshop. I am very proud to be here with Antonio for the first victory of the C8.R and the 100th victory for the team. »
