Corvette queen of the rain in Charlotte

Corvette seems decidedly untouchable this season. In Charlotte last night, the American brand won for the sixth time this year in seven races, thanks to the Antonio Garcia-Jordan Taylor crew.

The race came down to a duel between the No. 3 Corvette and the No. 24 BMW of Jesse Krohn and John Edwards. Poleman, Jordan Taylor was overtaken after four laps by Jesse Krohn who started from fourth position. Although he never lost contact, the Corvette driver had to wait until the last half hour of the race to make the decisive maneuver. “As soon as I saw they were having trouble with the tires, I attacked,” commented Garcia. “I don’t know if it was risky or not. I just saw the opportunity. »

He won with a lead of 1''474 over the BMW in a race conducted in intermittent rain. “It was super stressful, I almost drove myself into a wall several times, like everyone else I think,” Garcia continues. “Once I got into the rhythm, the track really improved. But in the end with old tires and the return of the rain, it was very, very tricky. On a wet track and in the dark, it's very hard to see where the standing water is. »

Thanks to this victory, the duo increased their advantage of 24 points in the championship over the sister car of Oliver Gavin-Tommy Milner, who suffered an accident in the final minutes and was fourth in the race. The BMWs, second and third in Charlotte, follow in the championship.

“It's just another great day for Corvette, with our fifth win this year,” concluded Garcia.

In GTD, Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley on the Turner Motorsport BMW won despite an eventful race. Starting in second position, they dropped to last place on the first lap while trying to avoid a car spinning.

« At the beginning, we were mainly trying not to end up in trouble” Foley commented. “When we left, it was raining really hard. » The American driver then passed his baton, moving up to third position. Bill Auberlen took it upon himself to overtake the two remaining opponents on the track and found himself in the lead with 45 minutes to go.

Ryan Hardwick and Patrick Long finished second in the Wright Motorsports Porsche and Roman De Angelis-Ian James completed the podium on theAston Martin from the Heart of Racing.

The complete ranking.
