Derani-Nasr fly over the Sebring Grand Prix, Bourdais shines again

Third round this season and third different winner. The 2020 season ofIMSA SportsCar Championship promises to be tough but if we had to bet a dollar, our choice would fall on the winners of the weekend: Pipo Derani and the returning Felipe Nasr, who defend the interests of Action Express Racing.

Placed in pole position by Pipo, the No. 31 Cadillac DPi-VR seemed untouchable during this Sebring Grand Prix. A single statistic is enough to highlight this insolent domination: 36, the lead that Nasr had over the No. 432 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac under the checkerboard.

Finally, behind the Derani-Nasr and Briscoe-Van der Zande duos, we find on the podium... a third Cadillac, the No. 5 of JDC-Miller Motorsports of Joao Barbosa and Sébastien Bourdais, who scored a third third place in as many starts this season.

The Sarthois was once again the strong man of this success by taking the advantage over the No. 24 Mazda RT55-P of Oliver Jarvis-Tristan Nunez during the final lap.

In GTLM, Corvette Racing signed its second victory in a row, accompanied by a double. The victory, however, this time went to the C8.R of Tommy Milner-Oliver Gavin, who was just 0 ahead of the No. 489 of Jordan Taylor-Antonio Garcia, who took the lead in the general classification.

On the third step of the podium we find Laurens Vanthoor and Earl Bamber, despite a collision in the pit lane with the sister car of Nick Tandy-Frédéric Makowiecki, which led to another passage through the pit lane for the n°912 and a puncture for #911.

No surprises in LM P2, with the victory of the No. 07 Oreca 81 registered by DragonSpeed for Henrik Hedman and Gustavo Menezes. The Swede and his American sidekick finished 12”2 ahead of the No. 07 Oreca 52 of Kelly-Pigot and a lap ahead of the No. 38 of Cassels-Masson (Performance Tech Motorsports).

Finally, in GTD, just like in Daytona, AIM Vasser Sullivan LLC triumphed thanks to Aaron Telitz and Jake Hawksworth. At the finish, the No. 3 Lexus RC F GT14 was 1”5 ahead of Ferrari 488 GT3 n°63 of Cooper MacNeil-Toni Vilander and 9”6 the BMW M6 GT3 n°96 of Turner Motorsport at the wheel of which R. Foley and Bill Auberlen take turns.

The next round of the IMSA SportsCar Championship is scheduled for Road America on August 2. All categories will be there.
