After setting the fastest time in the first two practice sessions, Earl Bamber continued his momentum by securing pole position at the wheel of the No. 31 Action Express Cadillac, breaking the previous best time ever recorded on this circuit, which was held by the Porsche by Nick Tandy.
For Porsche, qualifying ended badly, with Felipe Nasr running wide at the first corner and Kévin Estre hitting the wall at the same spot at the very end of the session. The red flag prevented anyone from improving their times and confirmed an all-Cadillac front row at their home race, with the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing car, driven by Louis Delétraz, setting the second fastest time of the session.
As if one piece of good news wasn't enough for General Motors, Corvette secured pole position in GTD Pro, allowing GM to claim the fastest time in all categories, as only GTP and GTD Pro were invited to the Detroit street circuit. Just like in GTP, it was a one-two finish for Corvette, with Alexander Sims' No. 3 car edging out Tommy Milner's No. 4. Their closest rival, Ben Barnicoat's No. 14 Lexus, was three-tenths of a second behind.
Tune in this Saturday at 10:22 PM to find out if Cadillac and Corvette can bring prestigious successes to their parent company at home.
