Dumas shines at the wheel of “his” RS Spyder

Suite à son accident de Mid-Ohio, Greg Pickett ne devrait plus, à priori, s?installer dans le baquet de la Porsche RS Spyder Cytosport d?ici la fin de saison d?American Le Mans Series. If he was replaced at Road America by the German Timo Bernhard, it was the Frenchman Romain Dumas who came to support Klaus Graf at Mosport last weekend.

At the wheel of a car that he knows by heart having won two titles and numerous victories across the Atlantic, the Alésien immediately stood out. Dumas and his German teammate were untouchable, and finally won in front of the HPD ARX-01c of Highcroft Racing from simon pagenaud and David Brabham.

“It was a great relay, declared the recent winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after the race. I knew I had to push hard at the start because we were slower on the straights. I was flat out for five or six laps, and when I had a ten-second lead, I started to save fuel. We had a good strategy, and Klaus was very good in qualifying. We were confident going into this weekend, and we left with the victory. Driving the Porsche RS Spyder, in the lead, at Mosport? For a pilot, there is nothing better.”

The goal of the official Porsche driver was to help Klaus Graf maintain his chances of winning the title at Petit Le Mans, on October 12, on the Road Atlanta track. Having beaten the defending champion car from Highcroft Racing, the mission was succeeded in the most beautiful way, to the great happiness of the German.

“This car is exceptionally balanced, continues Graf. It has been extensively developed over the years, and is certainly one of the best sports cars ever built. On this track you have to work hard to find the right balance. We learned a lot from the Porsche and Michelin engineers. We got closer race after race. They lent us factory drivers, notably Romain, which proves how close we are now. Having Romain Dumas, one of the best racing drivers in the world, as a teammate was an immense pleasure.

Next week, for the Silverstone 1000 Km, Romain Dumas will sit in the seat of another Porsche, this time a 997 GT3 RSR Felbermayr. His objective will be to help the crew of the sister car, made up of Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz, to take the LMS crown in GT2. As for Klaus Graf, he retains the hope of winning the title across the Atlantic, but at Petit Le Mans, he will not be able to count on the help of the French, the latter having to take the start of the Georgian classic aboard the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid.
