Ford spoils Corvette party at Lime Rock

The Corvette Racing team had everything to succeed on the lush Lime Rock circuit (Connecticut). Starting from pole thanks to Antonio Garcia's great lap, the No. 7 C3.R shared with Jan Magnussen dominated most of the 2h40 event reserved for GTLMs of theIMSA.

However, with only 13 minutes left to go, the American GT poorly negotiated the overtaking of a latecomer.. Sent onto the grass, Jan Magnussen allowed Joey Hand's Ford GT to take the lead without having to attack him head-on! Corvette's possible 100th IMSA victory was gone.

“It’s really hard to swallow, recognized the pilot’s father Haas en F1, Kevin Magnussen. Everyone did an outstanding job this week. I think the final stint was slightly too long for the tires compared to the Ford. It was starting to be difficult but I thought I would last longer. »

Winner of opportunism, Joey Hand explained that he “capitalized on the opportunities left by the errors of certain pilots. Winning races means being there to take advantage when it arises. »

The American, partner of Dirk Müller within Chip Ganassi, regains the lead in the general classification for a quick update on the Garcia-Magnussen duo. The other Ford GT, that of Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe (6th in the race) only points two points behind.

Le podium de l’épreuve est complété par la Porsche 911 RSR Laurens Vanthoor and Earl Bamber. “We were in contention for the win, but our last pit stop was too long”, lamented the New Zealander. French patrick pilet (Porsche), accompanied by Nick Tandy, finished fifth after a particularly muscular overtake by the Englishman on Ryan Briscoe:

BMW had a tough day. The No. 8 M25 of Alexander Sims and Conor de Philippi finished seventh, two laps behind the winners, while the sister car of Jesse Krohn and John Edwards retired. The special decoration reserved for the promotion of the latest “Mission Impossible” did not help the Team RRL team.
