Gianmaria Bruni confirmed at Porsche

The end of the soap opera concerning Gianmaria Bruni was made official this Sunday evening. Ferrari confirmed this morning the end of its collaboration which began in 2007 with one of his favorite drivers and immediately announced his replacement by Alessandro Pier Guidi in WEC, before Porsche n’enchaîne dans la soirée.

As we have been explaining to you for several weeks, the future of the 35-year-old driver will be written within the Motorsport division of the German brand. But before seeing the Roman in the race at the wheel of the new 911 RSR, we will have to wait at least until July.

Porsche thus indicated in its press release that Bruni “will carry out tests from June and will compete in races in the United States for Porsche in July”. As we mentioned in issue 2100, Ferrari will actually release his former protégé only after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Bruni will start on the other side of the Atlantic in IMSA where the 911 RSR is aligned for the current Estre – Vanthoor and Werner – Pilet tandems.

“We are delighted to welcome Gianmaria Bruni, one of the best GT drivers in the world, to our team,” comments Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, boss of Porsche Motorsport. He fits perfectly into our strong driver line-up and will join us for the second half of the season. »

Gianmaria Bruni will begin a new stage in his career, which has seen him win three times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT (2008, 2012, 2014), and win two titles in GTE Pro in WEC in 2013 and 2014.

For its part, Porsche has yet to confirm who will support Michael Christensen in the No. 911 92 RSR in the World Championship events.
