IMSA – Alonso: “A bit of the same approach as in Indianapolis”

Fernando Alonso concluded the first day of the Roar before the 24 in Daytona (Florida) by setting the 29th time among the drivers entered. The rookie entered in the No. 217 United Autosports Ligier JS P23 posted a lap time of 1'38 while completing 602 laps, finishing 20 behind the benchmark set by Filipe Albuquerque in the No. 1 Cadillac DPI of Mustang Sampling Racing and less than half a second from his teammate Lando Norris.

The Asturian especially took advantage of his time on the track to discover the Florida circuit and get used to playing in a peloton ofEndurance where different categories coexist.

“Unfortunately I only completed three laps (yesterday) morning, but it was enough to get an idea of the car and the track, commented the double world champion of F1. It was special to face the freshness and the banking. We feel the compression on our body and we realize that the visibility changes compared to the rest of the route. We can only see 200m in front of us on the banking system. I was trying to see where the trail was taking me. It was both fun and quick. »

After competing in the 101st edition of the Indy 500, Fernando Alonso must once again find his bearings. The Spaniard was able to use his experience acquired at the Indianapolis 500 last May.

“It's a bit the same approach as in Indianapolis, first and foremost having to learn different driving techniques, specifies Fernando Alonso. I'm trying to learn from the Endurance specialists and become a better driver when the 24 Hours arrive. This is the first objective. I have a lot to learn because it's my first time in Endurance, on a Prototype, driving at night with GTs around. »

The Roar before the 24 at Daytona will continue this weekend with two new days of testing.
