IMSA – Corvette emerges as winner in Virginia

Corvette was opportunistic to win the VIRginia International Raceway event in IMSA, round reserved for the two GTLM and GTD categories. The C7.R n°3 of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen emerged in the lead in the final quarter of an hour after the No. 6 BMW M25 GTLM – Team RLL of Bill Auberlen and Alexander Sims passed through the pit lane.

The latter had dominated almost the entire race, after taking the advantage on the first lap over the No. 66 – Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT of Joey Hand and Dirk Müller. But a second puncture less than fifteen minutes from the finish ruined the GT's hopes with the propeller.

The Magnussen – Garcia duo ultimately won ahead of the No. 67 Ford GT of Richard Westbrook – Ryan Briscoe. For her return to competition, the Ferrari 488 GTLM n°62 of the Risi Competizione of Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander finished on the podium, not without going off-track in the last hour.

Alexander Sims and Bill Auberlen took fourth place ahead of the No. 66 Ford GT of Hand – Müller, involved in a collision with the No. 7 Corvette C4.R of Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin, while the two cars were fighting. for third place. The second C7.R finally finished sixth after a puncture in the final moments.

In GTD, victory went to the No. 3 Lambroghini Huracan GT16 – Change Racing of Jeroen Mul and Corey Lewis, who dominated the entire event. Despite the incessant attack from Jesse Krohn and Jens Klingmann, the No. 6 BMW M3 GT96 – Turner Motorsport failed in second place ahead of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°33 – Riley Motorsports of Jeroen Bleekemolen and Trent Hindman.
