IMSA – Ganassi towards a 200th victory this weekend?

Title holder in GTLM at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Chip Ganassi Racing will aim for a second place this weekend in Florida. A success for one of the two Ford GTs would also give the American team a 200th victory.

IMSA – Ganassi towards a 200th victory this weekend?

Emblematic team in the United States, with a number of successes in Nascar, riding a IndyCar and Endurance, Chip Ganassi Racing has been leading Ford's GTE / GTLM program since 2016 with the GT.

Winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 in its category, the American entity won the 24 Hours of Daytona in GTLM last year with its trio Joey Hand – Dirk Müller – Sébastien Bourdais.

The men of Chip Ganassi, who will officiate as Grand Marshal of the event, will logically aim to defend their victory acquired last year, and a success on Sunday in Florida could cross a symbolic bar for the team with a 200th victory in competition.

“This is an important moment for everyone on the team and within the organization, recalls Sébastien Bourdais. We have the first chance to get to 200, so I don't think it would be a bad association for Chip to get to this point with a win at Daytona. The story would be pretty cool. »

On the other hand, the boss does not wish to focus too much on this symbol, preferring above all to aim for a “simple” new victory. “I want to win the race, I don't worry about 200th or 300th, comments Chip Ganassi. But, it is true that pocketing the 200th victory during a historic event would clearly be a real source of pride. »

The #66 and #67 Ford GTs will start the 24 Hours of Daytona this evening from 20:40 p.m. from 2nd and 5th positions in GTLM, Jan Magnussen (Corvette C7.R) having taken pole position.
