IMSA – Jeff Gordon: “I worked very hard”

Last Tuesday, Jeff Gordon was finally able to get into the seat of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-VR, during the preparation tests for the 24 Hours of Daytona (January 28-29).

Entered alongside Jordan and Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli on the double Florida clock tour, the quadruple champion Nascar does not come to the Daytona complex as a single extra. « I worked very hard because I want to give everything for them, Gordon says.

I told Wayne years ago I wasn't coming back (Gordon played in 2007 with Wayne Taylor Racing at Daytona with a 3rd place finish) to run again unless I can have the time and effort required. I might work harder this year than ever. »

A preparation which included several hours in a simulator, before the first laps in Florida on Tuesday. “ Every lap completed in the car was useful, as was the time I spent in the simulator from Dallara to Indianapolis.

I definitely spent some time getting familiar with the seat, steering wheel and the car's reactions. I expected to feel more comfortable here at Daytona than in Charlotte, and that's exactly what happened. »

IF Jeff Gordon doesn't want to make any predictions, the former Hendrick Motorsports driver recognizes that success at Daytona would mean a lot. “At this point in my life and career, it would be huge, underlines Gordon.

I think you realize how important this race is when you're here on start day and you see the hype and the hustle and bustle and it all doesn't disappoint. The challenges you face, during 24 hours of competing at this level against your competitors, is what makes this race so exciting. »
