While the 24 Hours of Daytona, which will take place this weekend in Florida to open the 2018 season, will be able to count on one of the most beautiful fields seen in recent years, particularly in the Prototype category with the DPi and the LM P2, L'IMSA confirmed this Thursday that these cars, as well as those in the GTLM category, will see their homologation extended.
The DPi and LM P2s aiming for overall victory in the American series will be eligible until the end of the IMSA season in 2021 (i.e. an additional year), while the GTLMs will be approved until the end of the championship in 2019.
This change follows the passage of WEC, where LM P2 and GTE cars are admitted, to a championship format over a Super-Season, starting in the spring of a year and ending in the 24 Hours of Le Mans the next year. The homologation of LM P2 and GTE has thus been extended to coincide with the end of a season (Le Mans 2021 for LM P2, Le Mans 2019 in GTE).
