IMSA – Porsche excited about qualifying at Daytona

If the 911 RSRs will have to start behind the Prototypes due to the category classification on the grid for the 24 Hours of Daytona, the German manufacturer's team is delighted to start the 2016 season in the same way as it ended the year 2015 with the overall victory of the trio Tandy-Pilet-Lietz in Petit Le Mans (Road Atlanta, Georgia).

“Our main goal with these difficult conditions was not to break any cars”, commented Marco Ujhasi, the director of the GT project in competition. “It’s fantastic that the two 911 RSRs achieved such lap times. Even if the weather remains dry on Saturday and Sunday, this performance was very motivating for the whole team and it is a superb start. »

“The season ended like it ended at Road Atlanta, with the same weather and the same position”, continued Nick Tandy. “We are delighted to have won pole, but we gave our best. I love driving under so much pressure where you have to both keep the car in one piece while remaining fast. »

Frédéric Makowiecki confirmed that the conditions were particularly difficult in this session. “It was incredibly wet and it was difficult to keep the car on track, but we expect better weather for the race”, underlined the Frenchman.

The start of the race will be given on Saturday at 14:40 p.m. local time, 20:40 p.m. French time.
