GM's future soon known

Cadillac remains a dominant force in DPi since the arrival of the category in IMSA, and Corvette still showing verve in GTLM with the new C8.R.

Two aspects which will, however, experience serious changes in the near future, with the arrival of the LMDh category as a new standard in prototype, while the GT3 will take over from the GTLM from 2022 via the GTD Pro.

If several firms have already confirmed their move to LMDh, including Acura, another current player in the DPi, GM should quickly give its position, just as for the GTD Pro.

“The GTLM class is going to transform into GTD Pro, and so we have worked a lot on a conversion package for that, says Mark Stielow, head of GM's Motorsports division.

There have been a lot of studies and a lot of work done on our side to study the LMDh proposal. The LMDh is very interesting for us and there will be a lot of manufacturers. There are going to be some exciting things happening in motorsport over the next few years.”

A decision is expected within 45 days according to Stielow
