The DeltaWing towards the ALMS from 2013?

After winning the 56th stand of 24 Hours of Le Mans, Dan Panoz is already considering the future of the futuristic prototype after the double clock tower in Sarthe. The project partner would like to enter the DeltaWing in its ChampionshipEndurance which has flexible regulations allowing it to compete with LMP1 and LMP2. The regulations put in place by the ACO for the World Endurance Championship seem far too complex to accommodate the DeltaWing according to the boss of the ALMS.

“As protectors of the ALMS, we would love to see this race car run in our sport and we think it would generate great interest”, comments Dan Panoz. “We have already started discussions with IMSA based on the regulations where the DeltaWing could race against LMP1 or LMP2 in ALMS. The secret lies in the fact that a rule should be created allowing her to be competitive in being a dominatrix. We want to have a variety of cars on the grid without in any way trying to replace the current prototypes. The difficulty in registering it in the WEC lies in the fact that the car does not correspond to the ACO regulations in force. To do this, we should benefit from an invitation as a new technology car running outside categories to add other events. »

Discover in the Guide to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the new issue of AUTOhebdo, available now in digital version for iPad, PC and Mac, and on newsstands from Wednesday, a special ten-page file on the Delta Wing project which will occupy the 56th stand at the Sarthe double clock tower.
