The GTP category of theIMSA could have one fewer car than expected in 2025. While the Porsche 963 n°5 of Proton Competition was well present in Teams announced for the North American Endurance Championship in October, this is surprisingly absent from the press release sent by Porsche on the night of Saturday to Sunday.
In this communication, the German manufacturer celebrates its "Night of Champions". An evening organized every year by Porsche to salute its successes of the current year and look forward to the next. The Stuttgart firm thus presented its drivers and its main programs for 2025, including those of its major customers.
In this part, the manufacturer from across the Rhine confirms the presence of Proton Competition in WEC with a private Porsche 963 with Neel Jani as the first announced driver. As for IMSA, only one customer team is mentioned: JDC-Miller MotorSports. No mention of participation of Christian Ried's team in the American championship is made. Proton Competition has not communicated on this subject.
According to our indiscretions, an agreement was close between the two parties to register a second private Porsche 963 under the banner of Proton Competition in the World Championship ofEndurance in 2025, but it would have fallen through. Would this aborted deal have had repercussions on the team's presence in IMSA? The black and gold Porsche No. 5 sponsored by Mustang Sampling was already absent from the pre-season tests at Daytona.
