Title quest gets complicated for Whelen Engineering Racing

The fight for the title continues in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. After the two consecutive successes of Pipo Derani and Felipe Nasr, the number 31 Cadillac DPi finally lost to the Acura DPi of Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor at Laguna Seca. Faced with the pace of the Japanese car, the Brazilians tried to limit the damage in terms of accounting. Second at the end of the race, they ended up going down to the last place on the podium behind the other Cadillac, the number 1 of Rengen van der Zande and Kévin Magnussen. “I think we did our best. Of course we were very close to finishing second. But, right at the very end, we lost the position to the #01 car. Overall it was a positive day for Whelen Engineering but we got a lot of championship points. We have to win the next two [races] and we are going to do our best to do that.”, declared Pipo Derani after this race. Now 100 points behind, Whelen Engineering Racing finds itself up against the wall.
